The 2016 Super Bowl had a bevy of strong performers, and this offering by Audi topped the list. Nostalgia plays a huge part in this spot as it follows a former astronaut as he recreates the feeling he got from the shuttle launches of his youth in the new 2017 Audi A8. Audi takes the traditional auto commercial format that generally dominates the Super Bowl – fast cars, winding roads, sleek interiors—and makes it more interesting with the astronaut narrative. Audi retains its Fame as a luxury brand and distances itself from other, more “down to earth” brands with the space shots, but nostalgia is a plot line that is easily relatable and retains viewer interest. With high levels of awe and surprise, this ad easily scores a 4-Star rating.
