Our Opinion

At one time animated ads ruled the airwaves, but for the most part, are now relics of advertising of yesteryear. Wieden+Kennedy Portland’s 2016 CICLOPE award-winning ad shows that even though the heyday of animated advertising has come and gone, when infused with emotion and executed well, can still be extremely effective. The CICLOPE awards are international awards that celebrate the “craft” in moving image and are dedicated to the art of the execution, instead of the idea. In “Man & Dog,” the animated format is extremely effective because it allows viewers to switch between the man’s and the dog’s view of the world without seeming gimmicky. It also avoids excessive anthropomorphism of the dog’s perspective while allowing viewers to experience and appreciate this perspective without judgment. The Coca-Cola branding feels natural within the storyline, another feature of expert storytelling and craftsmanship. This is a 5-Star ad and definite must see!
