There’s no shame in admitting it: a great dog ad will almost always get a big emotional response. But what makes a great dog ad? Real estate firm Coldwell Banker tells a simple boy-meets-pup story to show how rescue dogs don’t just need love, they give it. The greatness is almost all in the execution. We have likeable lead characters; a soundtrack that rejects voiceover in favour of a song (specially composed to peak at exactly the right time); and narrative cuts which switch quickly between dog and man, building our anticipation for when they actually meet. It’s not the most subtle of ads, but its craft is faultless.
